Saving a Language

We know that computers and other technologies are often quite helpful.  For example, technology is helping to save the Cherokee language.
  • Do you think it is important to try to preserve the language?  Why or why not?
  • Do you have any other suggestions about how the language can be saved?

  1. I think it is very important to save the language because to me when a language is gone it never comes back.

  2. They should save the language because some of the Native Americans don't speak English and can't write English words. So the people who don't know how to speak English can communicate in their own language. They can save the language by adding it to computers.

  10. I think it's good to volunteer. Because if nobody wants to do it then there will be fewer people knowing the language.

My suggestion is to do it on cars also. Like the kind of cars that talk, they should have the cars speak that language also.

  11. I think that they should keep trying to save that language. I think that because if they don't save the language then all of the history of that tribe thing would be gone. People might think that they don't have anything important in that tribe but I bet they do have a lot of things that are important... It is the second most populated...

  12. Saving the Cherokee language would be a good thing. It is also sad that not many more people no to much about unless they are ages 50 and up. It's nice they are teaching children and young adults. It is important to save a language because people speak it and what if that is the only language they speak? What if you also don't know what they are saying when there is an amergency?

  15. I think it is important to preserve the language because it is a part of their lifestyle and communication, if no one tried to preserve it they would lose a huge part of their history. One way to save the language is to have special classes around the world teaching Cherokee, it will greatly influence the children to pass it on.

  16. It is important to perserve the Cherokee language because like any other language we save, it's important to our people beacause that language is part of the history from the past.
We can teach most young siblings that is in a Cherokee family to write messages for either their other Cherokee friends or other family relatives. We can also help save the Cherokee language by reapeating words that Cherokee youths do not know yet. Also we can help save the Cherokee lanuage by teaching people that's eager to learn the Cherokee language.Clearly saving the Cherokee language is important.

  18. If the Cherokee language dissapears I would feel bad because they wont have another language to speak other than English if they really like their other language. But anyways, I think they should keep the language for safety reasons and for beliefs. A suggestion for the Cherokee language to be saved is to do anything you can do to keep it for you and your culture.
