Too Young to Vote?

On November 6th, millions of Americans ages 18 and older cast their votes for president (and so did our class, unofficially).  The National Youth Rights Association wants to give even more people the right to vote by lowering the voting age to 16.  Supporters of the idea say people would be more likely to vote if they started at a younger age.  They argue that anyone who's old enough to drive and work should be allowed to vote too.  They also point out that some other nations, like Brazil, let 16-year-olds vote.  Opponents say that people under 18 aren't ready to vote.  They argue that 16-year-olds are too young to understand the issues or make informed decisions about politics.
What do YOU think?

  1. I think 16 year olds should be able to vote because alot of them work and drive and can be very responsible. Though i do think that the ones that dont work should not be able to vote.

  3. I think that if you can drive you should be able to vote. No one younger should vote.

    1. How will you know when someone is responsible? Are they responsible just because they are a certain age?

    2. Like if your 16 and have a license you should be able to vote. If yor resposible enough to drive then you should be able to vote. But if your under 18 without a license then you should not be able to vote.

  6. I do think that 16 year old people should be able to vote. If other countries allow them to vote at 16 why cant we. If at 16 you may drive, and start a job then why cant they vote. I believe they are allowed to vote at the age of 16.

    1. I think you have a good point that if someone can work, maybe they should be able to vote. However, I had my first real job when I was 14 and I don't think I was ready to vote.

  7. I think that it should stay the same. The older you are the more you know about. That’s why it should stay the same so 16 year olds cant vote.

  8. I personally think that 18 and under are not ready to vote yet. The reason why is because as they said we wont understand the issues or make informed decisions about politics.

  9. I think that we should be able to vote at a younger age. So, when we grow up we know how to vote and what to do. Also, more people can decide for what they want to vote for. Like a president, or a governor.

  10. I think people should lower the voting age to 16 because they probably already learn about voting in the past.

  11. I think that the voting age should stay the same. I think that because if you’re older you might have more of an idea about what you are voting for. Also some things don’t effect people under 18, so younger people might vote for the thing that might be the worse choice.

  13. I think that the voting age should stay 18. The reason I think this is because when you're 16, you don't really know much about politics. Some 16 year olds might know about politics but my guess is most 16 year olds don't really care about politics. 16 year olds are not even adults yet! Can't they wait 2 more years to vote? By the time they're 18, they will know what is right for them and the country(United States). They will know what is happening around the world and what is important. The age requirement should stay 18. Voting at 16 is too young.

  14. I think that 16 years old is a good age to vote because they are old enough to drive and to have a job, which shows maturity. Also when you are 18 don’t have a lot of time to vote or pay attention to what is happening because they are busy trying to get into college. At 16 you are most likely not trying to get into college and probably only focused on school work, spots or a job. Overall I think 16 is a good age to vote.

  15. I think sixteen year olds should not be able to vote because it will take more time to count the votes. Also I think that sixteen year olds don’t know a lot about the election and how to vote because, my sister is almost sixteen and their teachers aren’t even talking or having them do homework on the election. If our country wants sixteen year olds to vote then I think the teachers should focus on teaching them about it.
